Gas Pipeline Macedonia Gap Analysis – ESIA
17.12.2012

Study carried out in co-operation with D’Appolonia S.p.A, as a prime contractor to the EBRD.

The EBRD has been requested to provide financing for the construction of 5 sections of the gas transmission system in Macedonia, for a total of 233 km, to be implemented during the period 2012-2017. In line with EBRD’s 2008 Environmental and Social Policy and Procedures, the Project has been screened as category A. The Government of Macedonia has commissioned preparation of an EIA study according to national standards. While the scope of the national EIA appears to be broadly compatible with the international-style ESIA, there are a number of areas where supplemental information need to be gathered and assessed in order to bring the national EIA process in line with the EBRD requirements.

PointPro Consulting will manage a team of local environmental experts to support D’Appolonia in: (1) identifying gaps between the national EIA and the EBRD PRs; (2) review the institutional capacity of the Macedonian Energy Resources (Company) to implement the relevant PRs; (3) elaborate an Environmental and Social Action Plan (ESAP); (4) elaborate an Environmental and Social Management Plan (ESMP); (5) elaborate a Stakeholder Engagement Plan (SEP).
